It is Carnival time in Italy! Come and celebrate it the
foodie way at Mora on 7Th
Carnevale is believed to have originated in Roman times when Saturnalia, the Saturn festival, and Lupercalia, the feast of the full moon, were celebrated. However, its pagan festivals and traditions were adapted to fit into the Catholic rituals, hence it is highly likely that the word “carnival” derives from the Latin carnem levare, because originally the expression indicated the banquet that was held the day before the start of the meat fasting, or Lent.
That is why pork-based dishes and fried sweets tend to be
typical of this season. After all, Carnival is a celebration of excess, of
abundance, of pleasure. The more transgression takes place, the better, in all fields,
Italians love to socialise around food, and Carnival
provides a great excuse to do just that.
We have been searching through regional Carnival recipes to
create a tasty and rich special menu inspired by the tradition to celebrate
this colourful, joyful time of the year at Mora.
